Ban infant circumcision (with medical & religious exemptions)

The United States is the only nation in the world that routinely practices circumcision on infant males for non-religious reasons, as a direct result of a propaganda campaign by John Harvey Kellogg and generations of ignorance on the subject. The procedure is commonly performed without anesthesia as a result of a common misconception that infants’ nervous systems are too underdeveloped to feel pain.

Behavioral changes in infants resulting from circumcision are very common, and can interfere with parent-infant bonding and feeding. The American Academy of Pediatrics Task Force on Circumcision notes increased irritability, varying sleep patterns and changes in infant-maternal interaction after circumcision. Canadian investigators report that during vaccinations at age 4-6 months, circumcised boys had an increased behavioral pain response and cried for significantly longer periods than did intact boys. The authors believe that “circumcision may produce long-lasting changes in infant pain behavior”. That study suggests that circumcision may permanently alter the structure and function of developing neural pathways.

The purported benefits of circumcision are negligible, with the same results achieved by proper hygiene. For too long we have been traumatizing our sons for no real reason, and it is unforgivable that with the entirety of human knowledge at our fingertips we allow this to continue.

No religious exemptions. Medical only.

Yes, agree with the major points of the proposal, and also with Mosley. Stop with the exemptions. It’s a barbaric practice with ZERO medical benefits, and only causes physical loss and harm, including brain trauma. In this case with religious exemptions, you’re saying it’s OK to maim children, as long as your religion allows it?

It is OK if the American gov. Is NOT in the business of accommodating every single religions whims and practices, and foreign interest group’s demand. This automatic instinct to accomodate and negotiate with the crazies is what got us here on the brink of national disaster prior to this election. It’s OK if there’s certain things you can’t do in America. It’s gonna be OK. There is a word in the dictionary that needs to be dusted off, and applied more by responsible citizens…“NO.” Practice saying it in the mirror. Notice how great it feels. And if you think about it, it’s one of the most caring, and protective, edifying, strengthening words around. Just a simple word. Imagine that. Think about it.
