Gmo’$ have Roundup right in the seed. This product has no business being in the USA. Other countries have banned GMO"S completely and the USA should follow suit.
Reduce the premium to carry the “Organic label”. This will reduce the price of organic products thereby making them more accessible to the public. Instead there should be a premium on conventionally grown products.
Encourage more organic growers to use the clay method to treat their crops. It is the cleaner solution to growing but comes with a higher price as the application needs to be done after every rain costing man power. Give these growers some sort of tax brake for using the clay method of fertilization.
There’s no roundup in seeds. Roundup works bc it interrupts a biological process only found in plants, which makes it safe for anything that isn’t a plant. “Roundup-ready” seeds have had their genetics precisely tweaked so they are immune to the effect of Roundup. It’s not harmful to humans or animals in any way. Zero people have ever been harmed by a gmo plant and their adoption in more countries carries on as they see the benefits in other countries. America cannot be left behind because of superstition and fearmongering.
I disagree with the idea of banning GMOs. Currently, there are 11 GMO crops available on the market, including corn, soybeans, and cotton, all of which have helped improve crop yields, reduce pesticide use, and contribute to food security. Instead of banning GMOs, we should focus on educating consumers about their benefits and ensuring transparency. A better approach would be to promote organic farming through incentives and reduce certification costs, while still allowing GMOs to play a role in sustainable and efficient farming practices. This way, both systems can coexist.
GMO “seeds” are NOT seeds! Seeds produce plants that produce viable seeds for planting! GMO “seeds” do NOT! They require farmers to go through a company to purchase seeds every time they plant! This is problem because the ability to grow and produce food should NOT be regulated and controlled by any company!
GMO seeds are just like any other hybrid seed and are not sterile. You’re repeating an activist myth. It’s funny bc the same people will claim gmo seeds are sterile and then claim farmers are being sued for saving gmo seeds to replant the next season. Make it make sense!
Farmers routinely buy new seeds every year bc hybrid seeds from a crop won’t always retain the same genetics they originally had when purchased. Plus, new seeds often have a coating that gives them protection and food while they germinate. Also, seeds have to be uniform in size to not clog machines. Farmers would also need a way to store huge quantities of seed. So seed saving is not typical in large-scale farming. Farmers will buy the same brand seed every year if it grows well for them and they know how to work with it all season. It’s nothing nefarious. Farmers want to eliminate all chances for crop failure.
Lauri, this is kind of true. Glyphosate is “safe” for mamalian cells. Bad thing is the bacteria in our guts outnumber cells 9-1. Glyphosate destroys the shikimate pathway in the bacteria and thus causing the helpful bacteria in our bodies to no longer perform the functions we need them to do. the gut -brain axis gets distupted. its horrible.
Leads to depression in animals, destroys their guts and brains.
Let’s not forget that while organic is always best, GMO’s do have a legitimate place. Millions of people have been spared starvation because GMO’s produce more food in harsh conditions.
The literature making your claims uses high doses of glyphosate people aren’t exposed to in order to see an effect. So, it’s not relevant and certainly not a reason to ban the use of something so vital to feeding billions of people and animals.
I don’t think you understand what gmos are, how pesticides are used and farming in general. Organic farming uses pesticides. 99.99% of the pesticides we consume are produced NATURALLY by plants themselves, and I’m not talking just the gmo ones. You will never live a pesticide-free life
Organic farming pesticides aren’t chosen bc they aren’t toxic to people or beneficial insects, I know that. Copper sulfate for mold control is toxic. Neem oil can be toxic and is in common use except in the UK where it’s banned.
For sure, so that being the case, as there are means to grow without pesticides (e.g. greenhouses & robotics, see for example greenfield robotics), why not encourage that?
Its pretty easy to see the correlation between glyphosate usage and illness popping up since 1996 and the creation of BT Corn. Its only a matter of time before we see the causation. But the big agrochemical companies will continue to pay off politicians and bury science all under the “trust me bro” mentality. There is plenty of conventional NonGMO corn that is grown and the number can and is continuing to rise. Hybrids out there that have natura and native tolerances to disease and insects. And the only change that has to happen on a farm is the removal of glyphosate. Easy shift. high end genetics in a conventional seed for half the price and more times than not, more yield.
It is impossible for a GMO to outyield its conventional counterpart if there is no pest present. if the conventional can fend off the pest with better plant health and higher brix, it will outyield the GMO EVERY SINGLE TIME. so that whole “we need to feed millions and billions of people” line, is nonsense. 1 in 6 Iowan kids has food insecurity. It has nothing to do with GMO vs NonGMO. it has everything to do with AgroChemical companies funding the problem and not the solution.
what im really saying, GLYPHOSATE IS NOWHERE NEAR VITAL. Its basically useless at this point as the weeds its used to control have gained resistance to it.
Because it can’t possibly feed everyone and definitely not outside wealthy countries. Even in greenhouses there are pest insects and plant diseases to treat. Can you even imagine the energy consumption it would take to move millions and millions of acres of farmland into greenhouses?
Maybe you ought to tell that “higher yields and better for you” crap to the farmers in India who planted gmo golden rice because Monsanto said it would produce higher yields and be more nutritious. They also said it would be more tolerant to the climate there. Most all of the farmers lost everything because the seeds under-performed. Plus the nutritional value was far below non-gmo rice. There used to be videos all over YouTube before the the fda took them down. Don’t know where you came up with your info but you are about as far wrong as you can be. Then there is all the research done on genetically modified foods show lab mice ending up with cancerous tumors in their throats and intestinal tracts. Maybe you’re a troll who works for those alphabet agencies. This information has been out for years. But you want to promote something that will literally kill people. Great job.
Antibiotics are not “prescribed like candy”. Did you know if an animal is prescribed antibiotics nothing about it can be put into the food system until all the antibiotics have worked itself out of the animal’s system? Do you think farmers want to delay being able to sell meat and dairy?
Being against glyphosate means you don’t understand the subject. The benefits of using it are immense and there are no real drawbacks. If there were drawbacks, they would be proven by now because there’s no lack in trying by the people who think it’s bad or want to keep organic food profitable.
