I was born in Ukraine and immigrated to the United States in 2014. I live in the state of Maryland. I am impressed with the RFK s opinion on food in the US and can’t believe that someone is finally talking about it. When I first moved to the US, I didn’t pay attention to processed food in this country. You would say, that I came from Ukraine, and I should have noticed the difference between the food, and I did, but I didn’t care because I was working 7 days a week and getting about $1500 a month, I didn’t have time to read the food label ingredients and even if I did, I wouldn’t have been able to afford organic food in the first place. Now I’m 30. And I finally started to think about what I’ve been eating all these years and how it has affected my life. I was born in a village in Ukraine on a farm. Everything I ate was as organic as possible, thanks to the quality of the soil in Ukraine and the fact that my parents never put pesticides in the soil to make the vegetables and fruits grow faster, because the soil in Ukraine is the most fertile compared to other countries. My grandmother, who lived to be 93 years old, never took a single pill in her life and never went to the hospital. I would ask her what did she eat, and she would say that she ate milk porridge and vegetable soup, or milk straight from the cow (not pasteurized), eggs from a chicken that eats only grass and wheat and meat from organic fed cows. And she didn’t have a single disease. I understand that everyone is different, but we are what we eat. And food is the most influential thing for our health and how long we can live. I used to eat the healthiest food until I moved to the US. When I go to American stores, I look at their apples and they look like they’re not real. I can’t imagine what they put in all the other products. The reason why I am writing to you is that I am interested in working with you if you have any work for me. In particular, I would like to express some of my thoughts on how we can improve the nutrition in the United States and make America healthier again. I want my future children to be able to live a long life in this country and eat healthy food just like I did in Ukraine. First of all, we have to make organic products affordable for people it may be hard, but people should be able to buy extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil instead of canola oil. Olive oil costs $17 and canola oil cost 3$. How can we improve the quality of oil?
People should also start visiting local farms. For example, Amish farms or other people’s farms, as well as the local butcher. Ask them what they feed their cows, pigs, chickens. So that we know what kind of food we eat . I personally started traveling to Amish farms. The difference is incredible in both price and quality of products. An egg from an Amish farm and one from a store has a different color in yolk. All vegetables from the farm taste like real vegetables, you can even smell them. People would rather go to Walmart and just quickly buy food without reading ingredient labels than go to an ATM, withdraw cash, and go to a farm. We need to bring more products from Amish farms to the store so that people can buy them. We need to control the farms, what they feed their animals, so that our food is not processed. Soda needs to be replaced with healthier alternatives or the price of soda needs to be raised so that people drink less of it. In the US, no one has time to grow their vegetable gardens . People are tired all the time and look forward to Friday happy hours with beer at 5pm every week. The US is not about enjoying life and work, it’s about working 24/7 to survive and pay the bills, and never be able to own fully home. People are drinking a incredible amount of coffee to stay awake and they can work 8 hours a day. So let’s at least help people with better food that can improve their health tremendously.
There are so many factors that affect people lives nowadays in USA. People have to be dependent on the system, and make sure they make enough money to survive, to pay mortgage , make sure they are healthy. People afraid to get sick in this country because of insane cost of medical bills.
