No government official, elected or appointed, should be allowed to deliberately lie with impunity to the American people, fear monger, or gaslight under any circumstance or on any public platform.
One would think that there are rules in place already but clearly they aren’t working.
For example, several congressional members lie habitually on social media. Even under “official accounts”.
Lying to the public and doing so deliberately should be an impeachable offense and grounds to be expelled from office regardless of the platform they used.
There should be an allotment of time much like the press to issue a correction if the information shared turned out to be incorrect later or something false was believed to be true at the time.
But it is an entirely different issue to continue to perpetuate a lie even after being corrected.
Gaslighting and fear mongering are far more nefarious issues that should result in immediate suspension, investigation, and potential fines/prison time.
We the people are the ruling class. No government official has the right to terrorize us, or browbeat us into compliance with their ideals.
The government must held accountable for what it says and what it does.
Obviously minor or accidental offenses will happen, such is human nature, and grace should be extended in those cases.
