Allowing Illegals an opportunity to become American citizens

That’s why there would be disciplinary action taken. My thought is community service of building our wall or some sort.

I can’t fault someone for trying to make a better life. I also can’t justify wrongs. We as a country failed by letting it happen.

I believe there could be a great way to navigate this. I believe just trying to remove people by force would not be the most productive and effective

I can’t support this. Those who entered illegally made that choice, knowing it was against the law. While I understand the desire for a better life, there’s a right way to do things. There is a process, and millions follow it correctly. The current administration allowed this, but it doesn’t reflect the will of the American people as expressed on election day. Blaming the U.S. is like blaming someone for leaving their door open if a robber enters—it doesn’t make it right.

Wanting the American dream starts at the door. Allowing illegals to become citizens is a slap in the face to all immigrants that came thru the door and did the process. Sorry but No. they should go back to their respective countries and do the process the allowable way.

If they are “illegal” they have done something wrong. They should go back and do it legally. I would be more than happy to have them here however, my grandparents FOUGHT right their rights to get here from Germany LEGALLY. Everyone else should do the same

Thank you for your response and feed back. ( I Bet your family has an awesome story!) I am from German and Russian decent. I understand everyone that would be completely against this concept. I fully believe this could be a great concept for America. And deporting people seems very challenging with people hiding etc. . I am hoping to come up with an idea that will make it benefit us along with being peaceful

So you still think they should get special treatment above those trying to enter by legal means. I disagree. The punishment should be deportation and a 2 year ban on application for citizenship. If you try to cut the line and are caught, “no punishment” would be going to the back of the line. Severity of punishment would start there.

2 year ban for first time, an additional 5 for a second, and permanent ban for a third because they clearly don’t understand our laws apply to them, so we don’t want them ever.

No. Illegals need to leave of their own volition or, if they refuse, be forcibly removed. If they want to be citizens, they can go to the back of the line. They shouldn’t get rewarded for cheating!

As a descendant from immigrants who came here legally, I can’t support this. My grandparents came here in the 1950s, through Ellis Island. They both had sponsors who were legally responsible for them, if anything were to go “wrong”. It took them 11 years too become naturalized citizens.

We cannot hold some illegals accountable and not others, even if they have been here for 30+ years. This disenfranchises every immigrant who came here the legal way. The right thing for them to do is go back to their country of origin and begin the legal process of immigrating here.

You have likely broken laws before. Kinda wanna make you leave and then drag your way back in. It’s arbitrary that you were born here without choosing to tbh. I wanna see YOU or someone you love have to do that. I work with people who came here illegally, and my goodness I’m so glad to know them. They are friendly, hardworking, and add life to my life. YOU should practice what you’re preaching, because you yourself have likely broken laws and by your logic, you now don’t deserve to be here.

There are laws and legal entry into every country, they are there for a reason. If a person enters the country illegally then they have broken the law to do so. Anyone entering illegally is a felon, the law states that anyone committing a felony must be incarcerated, anyone committing a felony while entering this country must be returned to their country of origin. You can’t break the law and expect to become a citizen when citizens who break the law are incarcerated. There is a legal way to enter and that is the way it should stay.

I respectfully disagree with you.

There is a legal process to become a U.S. citizen. This would only undermine the policies being put in place by the Trump Administration and create a fatal loophole.

I know how hard it is for some people, and your heart is in the right place. However, they came here illegally, and so they need to be charged as such.

You give them an inch, then they will take a mile.

I don’t think citizenship will be appropriate given to the fact they enter illegally but at least some legal status so they can work and live in the country as long they respect the law and pay their taxes. This is just an idea. I do think if they don’t have criminal records, work and pay their taxes they should at least have a legal status.

I have a mixed opinion on this topic.

Come into this country through a program.
Prove your commitment to and love of America.
Cut down the length of time to naturalization.

We have given amnesty in the 80’s. It encouraged more to come. Now they want amnesty again. They’ll just keep coming and asking for amnesty.

Imagine all those illegalls that came across the border. What if 1% over the past 4 years were militants sent here to inftrate our borders.

Have them join our military? So we want to train the illegals that were sent here on how to fight us? People that have no allegiance to our nation and its citizens?

No. Illegals are to be deported. They suck our funds, jobs and many are just freeloaders. Do it legal or get sent back. We have to be tough on this one. I have known sone very kind and hood illegals, too, and while I would hate to see them deported, they work and can start the LEGAL PROCESS before it’s too late!

They can build and service their communities at home. 6b people live less well than the USA. They need to fix their home. Coming here is not the answer. It will only turn us into the current state of their home countries.

I think there needs to be a timeframe for how long they’ve been here. If someone’s been in the country 10+ years, and has proof of it, and has been working, there should be a way they could get processed sooner, without having to leave.
The question is why didn’t they do it yet?
There are many people that began the process long time ago, and are still waiting.
There needs to be a process. I think anyone has come within the last year, maybe two years, needs to go back and start their process in their own country.

Yes thank you! The ones that have been here for so long and are good people should be able to stay. The pathway to citizenship needs some serious work, and you’re right it’s our own governments fault for letting them here in the first place they can’t just cast them out now when for some America is all they know. I hope they see this thread and consider it. I absolutely love trumps policies but the “mass deportation” is touchy. Mass deport the criminals and let the good decent people stay.

Not just no, but HELL NO.

There is another policy proposal that says anyone who enters the country illegally should never be allowed to become a citizen. I agree with this. If you break the law to come here, you shouldn’t be granted citizenship. There are legal pathways, which should perhaps be made easier.
