Allow the people to request and vote on specific scientific investigations to be carried out by federally funded scientists

modern academic science is largely federally funded, but yet does not answer directly to the people who pay the taxes to fund the scientists. Too often scientist are captured by the funding cycle and must pursue investigations that will further their next cycle of funding. This is a disconnect from the taxpayer who deserves to have their dollars used in a way that will benefit them directly. There are many scientific medical questions percolating through the pop culture and no mechanism exists for people to crowd source funding or charge competent scientist with executing robust studies. Establish a mechanism by which people can vote on specific scientific initiatives related to health and request existing tax dollars be diverted to address specific questions. Hold participating scientists accountable to the public. This will improve reproducibility in science and will improve public trust in science if the public knows that the studies were not funded by conflicted organizations rather they were funded directly by the people who wanted answers. crowd source upvotes and downvotes on a public leaderboard so that the most relevant questions percolate to the top for action.
