Medicare and many Medicaid plans fully pay for gym memberships. But those with commercial insurance pay full price for access to local health clubs. I am a senior and swim laps to stay healthy. The local health clubs are a major resource to exercise and stay healthy. I would like to tax deduct my monthly membership fee as a MAHA medical expense. Or pay through a health savings account. Why do the government health care policies pay for memberships yet not support memberships to those of us with commercial health insurance? Staying healthy by exercising at the gym is a medical expense.
