Have affordable basic healthcare that covers all the basic needs we have, including prescription drugs, emergency and necessary surgery, care for cancer treatment, mental health care, holistic care, chiropractic care, and coverage for alternative care. Basic dental coverage that’s affordable, and covers the basis dental needs we all have! We are a family of 4 much like most Americans who have to get insurance through the marketplace, because my husbands job does not offer healthcare. In January he needed an emergency appendectomy and we have a massive bill from the hospital because of the insurance deductible. Why are we paying for this each month to have now over $20,000 of medical debt for necessary care including primary care visits, dental care, and well women visits.
I completely agree with Megan. The Marketplace is essentially unaffordable and there is limited doctor availability. My husband just changed jobs to a small company that derives insurance from the marketplace. We are paying close to $700/mo and employer pays the other half. We have deductibles and copays and when deductible met, 80/20 split. A couple months back I searched for an entire day for a PCP only to find that all the doctors that were accepting new patients were booking into January of 2025 which was a 4 month wait. This is unacceptable and the marketplace should be required to refund the paid premium to the insured when they cannot receive the care they pay for. Additionally they and nickel and dime you for everything. I only speak to Blue Cross through chat and save all of the chat transcripts as they constantly lie about their prices and policies. Thankfully we haven’t had an emergency like Megan, but it can happen to anyone at anytime and people’s livelihood shouldn’t be threatened from a medical episode sending them into outrageous debt.
