Propaganda is a form of communication that can be used to manipulate people and influence their opinions, and it can pose a threat to democratic societies. Propaganda can:
*Polarize public opinion-Propaganda can be used to create divisions in society.
*Promote hate speech and extremism- Propaganda can be used to encourage violent extremism and hate speech.
*Undermine democracy- Propaganda can undermine trust in democratic processes and institutions.
*Distort public opinion-Propaganda can be used to distort public opinion.
*Lead to censorship-Propaganda can lead to censorship.
All of the above are the drastic effects the American people have been faced with for several years from our news outlets, journalism, and social media platforms and their extremely biased and fake news reporting. There needs to be some order and structure to what medias, new stations, and social media can cover on their platforms to avoid the propaganda tactics that they’ve been allowed to do without repercussions or accountability. This policy is not to promote censorship of any kind, nor to infringe on freedom of speech, but rather to hold news outlets, journalism, and the like accountable for their integrity & reliability, and to report in ways that are fair, unbiased, honest, and true.
