US’ founders in “The Federalist Papers” laid out the context
that is precedent for US’ Constitution, according to courts.
As such it reveals what the founders intended, and wisdom they had. This discussion was had 'round the nation’s founding, so we should know it as literacy of the ideas we’ve inherited.
[ We would do well to restore and fulfill intents that we agree with. ]
There are various issues that are presented - it’s well worth reading.
One is incentives, because if terms are limited, people in office will feel entitled to look out for their future after their tenure - rather than practice the actual job at hand as much as they can. Without term limits, the incentive is to be doing the best job… as such remaining in the position longer / harmoniously. Having term limits means that they need to profit during that time-frame, and will maximize their own personal profit as much as they can. [ Like in the bible ‘one cannot serve two masters, it’s God or Mammon.’ ]
What does make more sense is votes about confidence to call elections. If there’s term limits ‘special interest groups’ will simply take over. They do not solve problems, they actually make them worse, and famously so. They’re no solution, and those who are supporting them may be worthy of some investigation to resolve their afflictions in sensible ways - such as by helping them to understand why they aren’t good ideas.
