Corporate ownership of veterinary hospitals, emergency services, veterinary labs, veterinary imaging providers, and specialty hospitals is damaging the health of our pets. Mars Pet Care (yes, Mars, the candy and food company) owns two-thirds of the specialty and emergency practices in the United States. This has resulted in price fixing with exorbitantly high prices. Many pet owners are forced to opt for “financial euthanasia” as they cannot afford the specialty and emergency care to save their beloved family members. Corporate owners care more about profits than pets. FTC needs to step in and break up this monopoly.

Corporate take over of veterinary medicine has led to higher prices, fewer treatment options, long wait times and decreased availability of care. Veterinary medicine is now the highest ranking when it comes to suicide of veterinarians. Pharma and corporations have infiltrated clinic, teaching hospitals and now unregulated pet insurance companies. It is a very sad situation nd in the end it is the animals that are suffering from it.
