Of the 4 Million federal employees, there might be many whose unique talents and government experience would be invaluable to corporate employers in the productive sector. For the rest, there should be a one-time $50,000 Tax Credit to Fortune 500 Companies for every current federal worker they hire for at least 12 months, before 6/30/26. A $50k 1st year salary subsidy, and associated ‘Job Fairs’ the OPM could conduct in DC, either by dept or by discipline, along w/ related hoopla, could induce companies to accept/hire away large numbers of federal workers.
“Sharing Federal Talent with Industry” is the way to sell the large scale Out-Placement challenge the Administration now is faced with. The same program and similar events could be held for new federal recruiting, in a complementary In-Placement counterpart effort. The message is to Exchange Expertise between Government and Corporate America.
Once offboarded with a large 1st year subsidy, those ex-Civil Servants will have to ‘either sink or swim’, in the Real World. No One can say they were treated unfairly.
The results, come 6/30/27, as to how many former federal workers thus Outplaced then remain employed by Industry, without subsidy, will teach us volumes (albeit, retroactively) on the actual relative quality of today’s federal workforce being Outplaced.
The $50k subsidy is less than any of them cost the taxpayer to remain on the federal payroll, and well worth it to avoid the litigation & labor backlash.
