I am a Nationally Certified EKG/Monitor Tech, have a BS in Exercise Science and between 2018-2021 I worked simultaneously at two major hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. One was a county hospital and one was a non-profit. Both (via slightly different processes) terminated me for refusing to comply with Covid-19 policies. After some time, I wrote and filed two separate complaints in the Northern District Court of Ohio. Both suits were denied and since I filed pro se, on my own, it was difficult to make the 30 day appeal deadline so my cases died then.
When I decided not to take the shots it was almost a year before they mandated them. I tried to stay as long as I could because my job was extremely fulfilling. I didn’t want to leave and I asked the county hospital to give me the record of what I signed saying I was resigning since they considered my choice to be to “voluntary resigning”. They had no such records and never responded.
At the time when Covid first started, I knew if it came down to it I would stand up against this. I tried to talk to others in the office by explaining if we all took our masks off, this would end. They couldn’t fire all of us or replace us that easily but no one stood up with me. It was bigger than me and I had to do it for the ignorant people too. Even if they didn’t agree with me it was for them too. For all Ohio medical professionals and anyone who was mandated at the cost of their livelihood and jobs.
A third of my retirement was taken from me since I was fired 17 days before it was vetted. And my skin has still not recovered from wearing the masks for 2 years, granted I wore them most of my chin but my skin is sensitive. I told them they give me headaches and make me break out. (They didn’t care.)
I will not return to healthcare until we fix this corrupt system. This can never happen again in the Land of the Free!
