America should cease its goal of ‘reform’ for violent criminals depending on the offense. Instead, those who are found guilty should be removed from this country and settled on one of the 20,000+ uninhabited islands in the Pacific ocean. No guards, no supplies, no support from USA. Navy vessels would patrol the waters to ensure no escape.
Murder: Death penalty/penal colony
Rape: Death penalty/penal colony
Attempted murder: Penal colony
Violent robbery: Penal colony
Assault w/deadly weapon: Penal colony
Child exploitation/molestation: Death/penal colony
This is obviously a rough draft of the policy, but it’s high time that we realize the current penalties for crime do not deter violent people who cannot be reformed, and society should not waste its resources or endanger its citizens to try.
This approach also gives the criminals the opportunity to establish their own societies and continue living. So it is, in effect, a true chance for them to be reformed, albeit in a place they will never leave.
This can be modified/reworked, depending on public opinion and which course seems best for a safe, functioning society.
