Up-Front, Transparent Medical/Dental Billing

The “cost” side of healthcare is an absurdity! If you get a medical or dental procedure performed, it is impossible to know in advance what it will cost, whether insurance will cover it (and how much), and what your total out-of-pocket will be. You get billed by numerous different entities, and you never know when the billing will stop! You can get bills from medical entities many months later. It is literally IMPOSSIBLE to budget, because it is IMPOSSIBLE to know costs and who is going to bill you!

In this computerized era, it is ABSURD that we can’t know, like with our mechanic, precisely what a procedure will cost. And we should know, like with our mechanic, what additional charges we could possibly incur and be able to authorize them before incurring those charges.

We NEED up-front, transparent medical/dental billing/estimates, EXACTLY like we get from our mechanics!

To add to this: I would really like to know how in some countries such as Jordan that have as high if not higher standards of dental care than the US, you can get a root canal and crown for roughly $300 (I don’t have the citation but heard it from a couple people). Yet here, we are looking at between $1,500-$2,000 per canal and crown if it’s a front tooth and just slightly less if a molar. I’m not making a post about this because I don’t know the root problem but just wanted to add. Your proposal is a good one.

We need this law. No one can ever tell you what anything will cost, and they send outrageous bills thereafter, fishing for more dollars.
