I don’t agree with this, if this were to be done then everyone would want to add a long list of other things that should have the price cut and this is not something the government should be having their hands in.
You are right…this policy proposal is literally opening up the door for subsidized tampons at taxpayer expense. You can safely bet that there will be a class action discrimination lawsuit when the NEXT group of product users steps forward and demands that their products be subsidized by the American People as well, and were denied. Would I like it? Sure. Is it fair to the American People, half of which are not even biologically equipped to use the product? Absolutely not. This is a market-driven issue…not a govt issue.
Here is the amazing thing about the USA. If you see a need not being filled, you can do something to fill it. Many years ago only the big razor companies sold expensive disposable razors. Now there is Harry’s, Dollar Shave Club, ShaveMob, Gillette On Demand, and others. Harry’s started in 2012 and was valued at around $1.3 billion dollars at the first of this year. They filled a need.
Since everyone knows that there is no such thing as a ‘free or discounted lunch’, since SOMEBODY has to make up the difference, I don’t think it is very “American” to have half of the population who does not even purchase the consumer product, subsidize the discount for the other half of the population.
And when that “other half” steps forward in response, demanding discounts on “their stuff” and it is denied, you will suddenly discover the world’s largest (and justified) class action discrimination suit.
Nice idea, but we really shouldn’t be opening Pandora’s Tampon Box without fully understanding the repercussions for doing so.
