I live in rural central Ohio. I used to be able to hear tornado sirens at my home. I can no longer hear them. We have had several storms this year with tornado activity. No sirens were heard.
I spoke with the head of fema in my county and was told that the new sirens cost $30,000 each and are designed not to be heard beyond 1 mile.
What good does this do at night when you live out beyond the 1 mile limit?
My suggestion is to set up a speaker at the site of the tornado siren and transmit it to speakers across the county. I sent this suggestion to my county commissioners and the head of fema.
This is a very dangerous situation.
