An official USA app should be created for the American People to streamline our awareness regarding our nation’s state, as well as provide a better process for voicing citizen interests via national polls and voting.
For too long have the people of this nation been misguided by the agendas of news agencies that disregard the true democratic ideals of this country. We deserve direct and clear information/communication regarding government officials, natural disasters, tax allocation, war status, etc. Here are the functions I propose:
1. Proof of Citizenship
Verification utilizing a citizen’s social security number and an active United States ID through the app. The app would act as a form of ID as well.
2. Government Official Profiles
Mandatory profiles for every candidate and elected official in office that include their prior experience and a detailed synopsis of the policies they support with categorization of each policy. This will act as a direct vein of information from public officials to the people they represent.
3. Robust Citizen Voting
Each user may vote not only for candidates on the state and federal level, but may also vote in polls regarding upcoming policy changes and/or new bills being presented as well as how our taxes are being allocated. The voting status of the public should be presented in the app and referred to by government officials to help determine our country’s legislation. Voting should be a frictionless process for the American People .
4. The “We The People” Policy Creator
This idea is similar to, if not the same as, the concept that this website represents. Americans will be able to submit their own ideas for review by other citizens. Those ideas and policies that gain the most traction through “likes” must be reviewed by government officials. A poll should be brought forth in the app to determine if the petition/policy should be brought for a hearing in Congress.
5. Executive Updates
The People should be given regular updates from our president/the executive administration regarding the events of our nation. From wildfires to war efforts, the people need to know the status of our country and exactly what is being implemented to ensure our national security and economic prosperity—directly from the source with no news agencies hindering our understanding and awareness. These updates would essentially act as micro “state of the union” addresses in a notification form.
There are potentially many more beneficial functions that this app could provide, and I leave it to others to make their own suggestions. It is my belief that an application such as this would create a more educated American public who are more aware and ultimately less segmented ideologically. We require swift and accurate information from our government so that we may contribute our voice as caring citizens of this nation. An app such as this would help to mend many issues that the American People are facing today.
