Single Issue Bills for Congress

EXACTLY! This is a HUGE MUST!! The idiocy of putting more than one thing in a bill is beyond measure! It’s done in the name of cheating and doing wrong to the American people and we shouldn’t have to stand for it! We can’t even have fair votes on bills when there’s more than one part to it. PLEASE get rid of this criminal activity!

I would suggest an add-on, any Bills passed by Congress must automatically apply to members of Congress, no special carveouts for them or their staff (eg. Covid vaccine requirements)

Include a line by line breakdown of the dollars allotted to individual items in the bill. Include an administrative percentage allowed to administer the bill so it is not all eaten up by the pencil pushers.

This was the best idea I heard from the Republican led House, but of course it never happened. Make this happen!!

Every point is excellent! Fully support.

In addition to these ideas, I believe that every member of Congress should have the ability to bring a bill directly to the floor for a vote, without needing to go through a committee process that often serves to concentrate power in the hands of a few. This would give each representative equal power to propose solutions, fostering a more democratic and inclusive legislative process. It would also reduce the likelihood of important bills being held up by a small group, ensuring that the voices of constituents across the country are heard.

Let’s simplify, streamline, and democratize our legislative process for the benefit of all Americans

Along with the single subject bills, the authority of the President to issue endless executive orders should be limited. Each EO should be valid for only a certain length of time (not to exceed 1 year), and should be presented to both Congress and the House of Representatives to be voted into LAW (or not) before it expires.

This will end the back and forth we have after every inauguration of new EOs ending the previous administrations’ actions.

Should the contents of some prior omnibus bills be brought back and voted on again as individual items?

A lot of baggage, bad policy and spending will be carried forwards if there isn’t a retrospective component to this.

We could remove bad actors right away instead of letting them cause death and destruction for 50 years while being the highest paid govt employee. You know who I’m talking about…

Please let this happen

I agree, this is very important

There needs to be a page limitation to the bills. A “Single Issue” could be a funding bill loaded with pork and be 1000 pages.

I would cap a bill at 50-100 pages. Double spaced and no less than 10 point font

How would this be enforced?

I whole heartedly agree with this! It’s very important for our legislators to have clear and concise laws to vote on. No more of these sneaky, underhanded games.

If you can’t explain something in common English in one page, it’s too complicated.

Exactly. Why should something be forced upon us, but not the people who thought up the idea? ie Obamacare.

Please bring our government back to reasonable and rational operation by requiring single-issue bills that must be voted on their merits alone. Congress may need to work longer but they also may create less unnecessary legislation.

I support this straight forward common sense govt solution. The more transparent the better.

This is a mandatory requirement for a healthy transparent government to exist.

If it can’t stand on its own… toss it to the curb

The proposed bill should be posted on the government’s website prior to voting on it so the people can read it.
