Single Issue Bills for Congress

Short answer is No!

:ballot_box: Understanding Presidential Executive Orders :ballot_box:

Did you know that while the President has the power to issue executive orders, there are important legal limitations on this authority?

According to Justice Hugo Black’s majority opinion, the President’s duty to ensure laws are “faithfully executed” does not grant them the power to act as a lawmaker. This distinction is crucial! :balance_scale:

Executive orders can guide federal agencies on how to implement laws, but they must operate within the framework of laws set by Congress. :scroll:

Let’s discuss the balance of power and the role of executive orders in our democracy! What are your thoughts? :speech_balloon::point_down:

I agree and a factually correct name for the bill. For example The Inflation Reduction Act which was full of spending and drove up inflation didn’t match the name they gave it. Tired of the gaslighting from politicians who think we are stupid

We live in a Republic, not a democracy. We elect representative to make the laws. Our day is in who represents us.

YES! Single topic proposals. Make it simple and no pork involved! There is way too much stealing of our money and sending it to pet projects of the authors.

I heartily agree that ‘kitchen sink’ bills should be illegal; however, I doubt that it is possible to write meaningful legislation that is limited to a single page, even if bills are ‘single issue’ bills.

In addition to requiring that all legislation put forward stand alone, on its own merits without being accompanied by unrelated matter, I would like to see a rule that requires every bill submitted to be read in the well of the chamber on 3 separate occasions separated by at least 3 days with each reading requiring a passing vote on the 3rd day in order for the bill to advance to subsequent readings and voting and that they be published on the web site for the house or senate for access and reading by any member of the public online and that they be made available at the lowest possible cost in printed form before being voted on.

The constitution has many things that protect citizens from government and those who govern but it does not require transparency. That would be a good amendment to be put forward by a Convention of States and for states to consider and ratify.

Agreed and all members much be present and vote in house, no more voting from where ever show up, it is the job be at the work site. Also no back room voting or deal making, every thing is to be done on the floor where every member has a chance to hear what’s being said, with the chance for rebuttal, what’s being proposed

I agree 100%. This is a MUST to pass a bill on this. Too much sneaky stuff gets in these bills. All the pages are NEVER read. That is why we are in the trouble we are in.

Agreed. There shouldn’t be bills that are written that contain a bunch of fluff and sold as “x”. Multi billion dollar bills that are sold as “x” when “x” gets one billion and the rest goes to other countries. Single line item bills and America first bills passed before sending money elsewhere

Good idea! Like term limits for new laws.

Agreed. We wouldn’t have this problem if Congress wrote their bills like they did in the 1780s…with a quill pen!

Can we put the policy in a forum like this and have all the people vote? Leave it up for a month and at the end if it meets the voting criteria it would pass or not?

It’s a no brainer. No one should be expected to sign a bill without reading it first and there should only be one issue decided in each bill. Every bill that was signed “under duress” should be eliminated and revoked.

I have always been a strong supporter of the one law one vote. Politicians can’t, at the final hour, stuff a bill with thousands of frivolous laws and government spending. With the single bill, people will truly know who our politicians are and will make the lobbyists go away.

I agree all members must vote but the tax payer shouldn’t be paying for them to travel back and forth to their home state regularly.

Use case examples demonstrating understanding of impact on short term and long term impacts for true debating. Here Here well done on authors and sponsors! Abstracts that are full in simple language to understand intent. Reid unconstitutionally sponsoring ACA and Pelosi stating not a tax, it passes “we need to pass it to find out what is in it” being declared unconstitutional & then bait and switch to be argued by Obama as a tax = great use case of complete unconstitutional across the board.

We should also add that they have to name it based on the actual use of the bill. For instance, instead of the “Inflation Reduction Act” they would have to call it the “Environmental Action Act.”

(b) Quorum & Voting Requirement.

  1. Presence for Quorum and Voting: Members of Congress must be physically present in the chamber for the first annual session and for any special events scheduled by the speaker 30 days in advance.
An individual may be counted for quorum purposes and to cast votes on any bill or joint resolution by authenticated tele presence or in person.

I definitely agree with single issue bills for Congress.

I think the bill should be posted to the public at the same time it’s given to Congress 10 days before nothing on it. The votes of the people on a bill website or this one, should be looked at by those all voting in Congress beforehand with each member stating the votes of the people, for and against at the time they cast their vote.

I think this could make it too easy for future Congress to reverse laws that don’t serve the agenda. I would rather make it possible for citizens to make a law subject to a national referendum where citizens can vote to remove a law. Rather than a popular vote, it should be by electoral vote.
