Single Issue Bills for Congress

I love this! Very thorough!

My only concern is that 1 page length might be challenging depending on the topic. Should it be the goal? :100:. But for the more complex / multi-faceted matters, maybe we consider allowing up to 3 pages max.

Yes, this would be a big help.

Agree. The language of the bills has to go back to being based off of common law, not maritime law code that all these attorneys are trained to use.

This is a MUST! So many issues are snuck into these 1,000 page bills and have nothing to do with the title of the bill. It’s misleading and disrespectful to the American people!

Per the outlined policy proposal*, I suggest the creation of a master template of up to 5 pages to manage both the size and required content of the proposal that includes:

Section One - Description: RE: Outline items 1, 2 (revise), 3, 5, 9, and 12.
What: a) Name, with category/subcategory labels, if applicable.
b) Purpose.
Why: Justification.
Who: Policy/bill creator(s) and individuals, industries, institutions, and
agencies it would affect or impact.
How: Outline or summary for development and implementation.
When: Timeline with metrics/benchmarks.
Where: Stakeholder online/in-person access and feedback methods

Section Two - Compliance: RE: Outline items 4, 6, 7, and 11.
Consolidated section to provide sign-offs and/or other indications of compliance.

Other:
Item 8 - daily cap concept needs further discussion; i.e. the presentation, review and discussion of proposed policies/legislation may not be ready for voting in a single day; legislators should have time to digest, analyze, and consider new information before voting.

I have often said, there needs to be TWO attached documents

one, the legal boilerplate jargon
the other, the common/plain language “Intent” of the law
that way, if someone tries to use a loophole, the court can fall back on the “Intent” portion

This should be done on the first day that President Trump is sworn in

We already lobbied our representatives for this. We have to get the Senate on board with it too.

100%

YES ! About time.

I agree

Brilliant! This is a policy that I have wanted this for years. I would suggest including that : whatever the government does for one American, they must do for all Americans. I believe this caveat would substantially limit the scope and scale of federal interventions (albeit imperfectly), most of which go well beyond proscribed constitutional limits.

This proposal is something many Americans can support. I also believe there should be a website for public viewing of all upcoming bills, if one doesn’t already exist. Right now, we mostly hear about a few key policies, while countless others go unnoticed, hidden in 2,000+ pages. It’s impossible for most people to fully grasp what’s being voted on, and that’s a problem that needs fixing.

I thought they passed that last time, but then it was never followed. Needs to be done in a way where it is a requirement.

I would like to see them written in simple enough language that the average person can understand without needing the help from lawyers.

Absolutely agree

Single issue bills offer transparency and politicians should not be able to sneak in their pork. These bills should be lean.

I believe this a must. I do not think being politicians should serve more than 2 years.

Long term cost analysis would be helpful since it’s congress who make laws effecting spending.

Line item veto for the president is not legal, because it would allow him/her to circumvent Congress or strip intent out of the bill. HOWEVER, I would like to see line item veto within Congress to keep inappropriate additions to the bill.
