I wholeheartedly agree with this one. Bills shouldn’t be clumpped together and there should be a minimum time limit to read before the bill is passed.
100% agree, depending on the issue tho it may take more than a single page, so maybe a 5 or 10 page cap would be good.
If they dont follow their own law kick them out. We hire them we can fire them.
Love this. Please fast track this.
100 percent agree!
This HAS to happen! Stop letting either side pad these bills with random and unrelated things! It should really be this simple.
Agreed 1000x. Also, single-issue bills should be written using clear, straightforward English language so that all citizens of this country can read and understand what exactly is being voted on. No more hiding intent or burying loopholes behind an endless thicket of legalese.
In all bills, there should not be any persons or groups of persons that the bill excludes from being subjected to its purpose. In the past congress has excluded themselves from following their own bills.
I think it can be more than one page but I agree with the rest. This is common sense!
Here Here!
Love this. Should also include the ability to evaluate whether the result was achieved or not. We can’t just pass laws and completely separate the outcome from the intent.
Congress will naturally weasel around what counts as “a single subject”. I’d propose we do something simple: require that every single bill be read aloud IN FULL, in front of every member of Congress, immediately before being voted on.
It’s simple, impossible to weasel around, and provides a natural incentive to limit both the size of bills and the number of them. And bonus, even if someone couldn’t read the full bill initially, they’d literally have it read to them before voting.
they will be ineligible to vote on the bill if requirements are not met
Absolutely!
This is exactly why I made an account! This needs to be done. It would force congress to actually do the work of the people and also would provide accountability. It would also lead to less political warfare as members of the Left or Right won’t be able to say “See, the Right is against FEMA funding.” (When countless other unrelated issues are tacked on to the same funding bill).
This is essential.
Single issue bills should be mandatory. Bills cannot always be one page, but should be no more than five pages, unless it is a detailed bill such as healthcare coverage that must lay out details that are extensive. All members of the house and senate should have to certify online that they have read and understand the bill and how they are voting. That will ensure that we the people can hold them accountable for their votes come election time. More transparency.
Yeah, sometimes there is a compromise, “We’ll stop doing this if you stop doing that” which would be two separate subjects.
But good luck getting Congress to agree to keeping it simple, or even a hundred pages.
This, or, perhaps a better alternative, a page limit. Whatever it takes to stop Omnibus bills, and 1000+ page bills. There is no way senators or representatives read 1000-page bills.
I have been thinking about this for years! Yes, to single issue bills.
