Your proposal, the way you have it written, is definitely one of the best abortion proposals I have read. I did vote for your proposal and I think that the incoming administration should take it very seriously. You have balanced both pro-life and pro-choice concerns in a very clever and scientifically sound proposal. Well done.
the " Limitations on Stateās Excessive and Ineffective Abortion Penalties " section basically makes the whole thing moot. groups like planned parenthood and other NGOās can raise plenty of money to support doctors and set up networks to circumvent the rules of states than ban abortion. while the rest of it sounds reasonable, this section effectively reinstates roeV.wade by gutting the power of states that oppose abortion and still not doing anything to limit the states that enthusiastically support abortion without restriction.
Nope. I have explained repeatedly and in detail that the 14th amendment explicitly allows the federal government to regulate inter-state commerce and to ensure that every āPERSONā (which can be a baby or woman) receives due process to protect their ālife, liberty and property.ā
The 14th amendment has already allowed this for multiple medical and abortion regulations.
The Trumpās conservative Supreme Court even affirmed the constitutionality of Obamacare and EMTALA, despite many right-wing pundits claiming that those laws werenāt constitutional.
There are already laws that protect healthcare workers , or perhaps they are rules or mandates, I donāt know for sure. I do know that Trump introduced an additional bill during his last term and that one was introduced in Jan 2024ā¦ Federal Register :: Safeguarding the Rights of Conscience as Protected by Federal Statutes
https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/401/text
I cannot find the one that I read last year that was PASSED - but it does existā¦
Iām sorry I canāt be more helpful.
Overall, itās a good, well-researched proposal with a balanced approach aimed at reducing polarization. Its detailed approach could appeal to both pro-life and pro-choice supporters, focusing on maternal and fetal healthcare without banning abortions or overriding statesā rights.
My issues with abortion: #1 I donāt want my tax dollars funding it.
#2 No consideration for fathers. I have two examples. I was engaged and living with a woman. After finding out she was pregnant I wanted to get married immediately and become a father in due time. She didnāt want that. She called off the engagement, broke up with me, and had the abortion any way. Nothing I could do about it. A cousin of mine was with a woman and they were expecting. They had an argument, and she had an abortion ājust to get back at him.ā Nothing he could do about it. Is it any wonder why so many men donāt want to be fathers?
#3 I believe in some cases, abortion is the modern equivalent of ancient pagan child sacrifice. Reference the Church of Satan celebrating abortion.
#4 when you consider the human trafficking epidemic there could be a whole society out there that thinks sex slavery, human sacrifice, and pagan rituals are normal. Considering over 200,000 missing children just in the USA.
This may be a different problem entirely, but the lack of respect for life and trying to paint a pretty picture over the reality of it doesnāt work for me.
I am editing this post to add one more issue. It is the sale of aborted fetus tissue. I donāt understand why there is even a market for it. I cannot fathom why anyone would consider it to be āResearchā when they are using human remains. I consider such activity necromancy. For me there is a difference between an autopsy after a person dies, and research after terminating a life prematurely.
You lost me in the first paragraph. Trump absolutely believes in the three exceptions, heās stated many times. Wemen already have the right to keep their legs closed. This sums up the entire issue. Abortion isnāt a political card, no one that cares about abortions is in their right minds and will never find common ground with common sense. Abortion is murder. Ectopic pregnancies are not abortions, so thereās no issue there either.
No abortions! Itās wrong to kill an innocent life. God didnāt say itās ok to kill if A, B, or C are met. God said we should not commit murder. I will not be supporting this policy. It goes against my Christian beliefs and more importantly against God.
I agree that students in High school should learn what an abortion is. They should also be taught what a baby looks like at each stage of pregnancy and what body organ are developed. Many people that that the fetus is a clump of cells. People should always be informed before any procedure. Abortion should never be a form a contraceptive. And there are so many women who experience infertility and would love to adopt.
Abortion has become the new birth control
This right here is not only false but inflammatory. You claim to be wanting to find a middle ground that removes this issue but intentionally muddle the other sideās position. I find that incredibly disingenuous and it does not work in favor of your argument.
We Ok, Iāll take a chair at this table of conversation. What happened between 1960-1975 between boys and girls?
- āSex Edā was taught separately between girls and boys. For years girls were taught about their bodies and how babies were made. Boys were taught about their bodies and their part in making babies. It was more Personal Health and Maturity than it was about sex.
- Parents taught daughters the importance of keeping your body as healthy as possible - your food, your exercises, no smoking or drinking - because you only have the eggs to make babies in a limited amount and have to protect them to ensure a healthy baby.
- There was never any talk about ābeing a bitchā, or PMS, or being inconvenienced from a periodā¦ it was part of the life cycle. Boys didnāt make fun of girls having periods, in fact, they didnt talk about that with girls. There was a bit of prudishness and alot of respect for the opposite sex.
- God was allowed in school. Some kids prayed before they ate lunch. We said the Pledge of allegiance to the flag each morning.
- Citizenship was graded, meaning you had to do the right thing, and treat others with respect. All teachers were the watchful eyes. Also, we were taught about Americans that were of excellent character. People such as Eli Whitney, George Washington Carver, Chief Sitting Bull, Beethoven, the founding fathers, etc. Today we could teach our kids about people of character from all over the world.
- These kinds of prompts cause kids to think beyond their own corner of the world, to respect others, and to value life. Value life BEFORE making a baby.
Raising my own kids during the 90ās-2010ās, sex ed was all about the mechanics, boys and girls together in same room, respect for others was not taught, their memorable thing they learned was how to out a condom on a banana. God left the schools. There was no character studies.
I believe we can get around this abortion issue by starting young and teaching young people things that really matter in the scope of life. Take sex ed out of the classroom, make it about health. Leave the sex education to the parents. We do not need to make any amendments to a constitutional or spend years arguing the lines around abortions. They are unnecessary these days and people need to think about higher goals that take longer than 5 minutes. I have know 4 women that had abortions; 3 were forced into them by their parents ! Because the parents didnt want the stigma attached to their families. All of the women have regrets and on depression medicine.
We need to stop normalizing abortion with the new generation. People that feel strongly for it, would do best to speak of a murderous act like this privately. It should never be used casually because timing is not right, or like one family I know - it was used because of the nationality of the father. Bring God back and miracles happen.
I am wondering how Abby Johnson stands on your proposal. She has worked tirelessly on this front.
I dream of a day when funding is put toward adoption rather than abortion. There are so many people that would love to have a family, but cannot afford the legal costs associated with adoption.
We have become such a disposable society. Abortion has become a source of birth control. We can do a much better job of informing young girls about the resources available to them and exponentially increase the amount of awareness about infant safe haven laws and detrimental effects of abortion, both short term and long-term, on a woman.
Very well thought out proposal, and your experience shows.
Its the right idea to appraoch this from a āmaternal healthā perspective as opposed to a ban/unban.
This strikes the right balance this country needs. Lets get somethign done based on some things we all (most!) can agree on.
EDIT: PS: Can you imagine the left-wing meltdown if a trump congress passed something that actually grants more rights for women? Yet this still allows at a state level the ability to ban elective abortions. Love this.
I had severe preeclampsia, it does not develop until after 20 weeks. In the instance of life threatening preeclampsia they deliver the baby to save your life and do everything in their power to also save the baby. An abortion is not at all necessary and would in most cases prolong emergent delivery or put the mother at more risk.
The US federal govt should be far smaller
The US govt should not be ruling/commenting on anyoneās health, period.
This issue rightly belongs to the states. Nothing else to do with it.
I think youāve done an excellent job at investigating both sides of a very complex and divisive issue. Your proposal is straightforward, and holds promise. I give your proposal my vote of yes.
This is well researched, but I still say that women get more of a say at the state level and politicians are just using this issue to gain power and have an issue. I am for stateās passing what is right for their populace instead of a blanket proposal for everyone at the federal level.
Thank you, but: This proposal STILL gives states all the say when it comes to elective abortion. I would not consider it a āblanket proposal.ā It mostly offers basic safeguards to protect women and unborn children from the most extreme aspects of abortion laws and medical malpractice/abuse.
I stayed clear of this topic, because I didnāt want to read most of these posts, but I read the proposal in its entirety. I honestly donāt want to see the federal government making more laws, more money, or digging themselves even further into peopleās lives where they do not belong.
If anything, we should be supporting removing the federal government from decisions for the people, let alone womenās rights to kill babies. It took forever to make this a state-by-state matter.
Ashley, it would be more productive for you to start and gather a group of like-minded people to be the educators in this, and stop trying to stamp these things into law. It could be even something to possibly get this attached to a collection of information about the realities of abortion and information can be delivered on the masses to women who desperately need it. Educational pamphlets, and things of this nature, or even part of a high school sex education reality book.
It blows my mind that the whole staple of things like this, and other things people want is some how continuing to allow federal government to be the ones telling us what to do, I am tired of this way of thinking. Removing the federal government from passing laws should be celebrated and we need to start turning towards our communities and getting things done in a manner that requires āthe minimum government involvementā. Remove federal laws on abortion and abolish it. Removal of federal funding in its entirety and give it to the states to decide.
