Preserve Rural America Act

I served as a San Benito County Supervisor and saw firsthand the breakdown of local authority, economic transfer of power from small business to big box corporatization of important industries, especially with healthcare, individual freedom, abuse of rural preservation of critical resources, and agricultural land. Many don’t realize we were under one man rule in the middle of the lockdowns and mandates for a year and a half. It has been a complete shift of power from Rural America to State and Federal powers.
It’s time for Rural America to have a stronger voice to protect public health, bottom-up economic development, food integrity, resource management, and community stability.
My policy idea would enact the following:
• Provide strong measures that allow funding to be controlled locally for everything managed under a local jurisdiction, especially disaster management
• Provide policy that creates an easier process to charter areas as independent municipalities
• Establish checks and balances to curb state abuses of local governments (i.e., reject unfunded mandates that bog down local government’s resource management)
• Protect rural areas from unfunded state laws, and stiffer penalties on states that abuse individual freedoms
• Require adding an assessment mechanism of “resource” ( rural ) counties that add value and provide protections from eminent domain on those properties
• Make it harder for precious agriculturally productive soil to be overdeveloped, reducing the food production foot print
• Make it illegal to sell these lands to foreign countries
• Prioritize our American workforce in the harvesting and production of these
crops.
Strengthening America means strengthening the people that live and work here, and pushing back on the Left’s intent to urbanize and centralize all states. It’s time to restore power back down to the level that respects, lives in, and understands Rural America, giving power back to the people
