Pharmaceutical advertising direct to public

I would like to recommend banning direct advertising of prescription pharmaceutical drugs to the public. Stop the onslaught of television commercials for prescription pharmaceutical drugs.

There are very few countries in the world that allow direct marketing of pharmaceuticals to the public. These commercials completely dominate the airwaves.

Patients and their physicians should discuss the best care in a private consultation. “Ask your doctor if ………………. Pharmaceutical is right for you” assumes the entire population is in need of their products.

I think this the most logically and realistic place to start in the reform of our healthcare system.

Repeal whatever law allowed them to start doing this- they haven’t always been allowed to advertise due to the medical legal doctrine of the Learned Intermediary. An inundation of advertising makes people think its normal to be on 5 different meds all the time including giving them to young children. Terrible and misleading.
