For every policy made at the federal level, ensure there is support by physicians AND nurses. So many current and historical decisions have been made strictly by physician leaders. Nurses have the most holistic view of patient care. Many policies affect nursing (Meaningful Use and EHR documentation) and they do not have a voice (or a strong one at least) when they are created. I causes burn out of nurses, and directly impacts patients.

I agree. I am a Solo MD and have no medical assistant or nurse, so I have to do a lot on my own - its crazy how much you have to document and you see no compensation for the time. And what for? Anyone getting healthier? Anyone cutting down on medications? Documentation of secondary information is taking time from patient interaction.

Nursing instead focuses on independent practice for NPs which is just dangerous for patients since they have maybe 1/20th the training. Why do they do this? More $$$$.
