MUSIC: Return to 432 Hz: Reverse the dissonant 440 Hz Standard: Restore All Music Back to Nature’s 432 Hz For Healing, Harmony and Wellbeing

Throughout history, musical instruments were tuned to 432 Hz as the standard; a frequency that is aligned with the natural vibrations of the Earth and human biology. This tuning, known as “Verdi’s A,” promotes harmony, relaxation, and healing by resonating with the Schumann Resonance (7.83 Hz), the Earth’s natural electromagnetic frequency.

ISO 16 collaborated globally that it would be changed to 440 Hz as the international standard. Note this is not a law. It was established by the International Organization for Standardization in 1955 to define A=440 Hz as the reference pitch for tuning musical instruments globally. It serves as a guideline for consistency, not a legal mandate.

History and studies show that the original standard 432 Hz for all musical tuning prior to the 1950s, resonates with nature, the earth and the biological frequency of the human body which illicits a grounding effect on the mind and body.

However, in the 1950s, the standard tuning was officially changed to 440 Hz, largely influenced by international corporations and agreements as well as industrial interests. That being said, it is believed that it abruptly changed for suspicious reasons.

*** Critics argue and data shows that 440 Hz tuning (which all music is required to be tuned at post 1950’) creates tension and dissonance, as it is less in sync with natural frequencies.***

Proponents of returning to 432 Hz believe it can restore balance, reduce stress, and enhance the therapeutic power of all music. It is said and history has shown that the utilization of the original standardized 432 Hz fosters a deeper connection between the soul and humanity, nature and the planet. We KNOW that certain Frequencies have a profound negative impact on the human body especially given the amount of music pumped everywhere that we are surrounded by on a daily basis that is out of our control.

Data has shown the remarkable healing and harmonizing effect that 432 Hz has on the human body and the cells.

Let us finally reverse the standard!!

Thank you very much for recommending this!! Based on my own experience and research, I agree that music based on the 432 Hz standard is highly beneficial for the health and wellbeing of each individual. Furthermore, it would promote overall harmony and much needed peace for the collective as well. We need to put more attention on the harm that has been caused by music based on the 440 Hz standard - more research needs to be done and shared with the public. The future of medicine is based on sound, on healing frequencies. Returning to the 432 Hz standard would help to quantum-leap (back) to a much better future that serves the highest good of each individual and the highest good of all.

Could not agree more, 1000%! Thanks Anita!

Very interesting topic. I known how frequency can affect the human body but not which particular frequencies are better. Hence why sound bathing is very popular or why studying/ working while listening to 432 Hz classical calms my mind and makes me more productive.

This is an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard which is controlled by multiple countries. How do you propose America change this because I would love to learn more?

I want to make sure I understand your proposal correctly. You want the definition of a musical note to be prescribed by LAW? I am not qualified to comment on the relative merits of A=440 Hz versus A=432 Hz, but I have read enough of the Federalist Papers to know that the Founders would be horrified by your proposal (for purposes of argument, I am assuming you are absolutely correct that 432 Hz is somehow superior to 440 Hz) to use the blunt tool of govt to coercively impose your judgment on everyone using the force of law.

“Concert Pitch” has been all over the map for centuries. There is no cosmic relevance to A432. (And, no, the Nazis had nothing to do with A440 becoming the norm.)

*a 1740 tuning fork associated with Handel is pitched at A = 422.5 Hz

  • a specimen from 1780 is pitched at A = 409
  • A tuning fork that belonged to Ludwig van Beethoven around 1800, now in the British Library is pitched at A = 455.4 Hz, well over a half-tone higher.
  • The pipe organ tuning fork in Versailles Chapel from 1795 is A=390 Hz,
  • an 1810 Paris Opera tuning fork sounds at A = 423
  • an 1822 fork gives A = 432 Hz
  • an 1855 fork gives A = 449 Hz
All of these examples, and many more, are given in the Wiki article, Concert Pitch. It’s a fascinating history, and a great rabbit hole to go do, at least if you are a musician with a passion for music history. But, there is nothing magical about A432. It certainly is all the rage to talk about it these days, though.

I suspect individuals prefer different tunings, just as we all have preferences in anything. Many people passionately prefer one brand of coffee or chocolate or tea, or many other things, over another. And if we are going to play by ourselves, I suppose we can tune our instruments to whatever pitch we want. But, there is always going to be an agreed upon “concert pitch”. Who knows where it will go next? Up or down?

A good digital piano can be set to play in many different historical tunings. People may enjoy exploring these and other tunings on an instrument like that.

The important thing about music is listen to the music you love, enjoy it, and let it feed your soul!

Lets do this, alongside with our sustainable housing solutions, this would be great in our music department as we were already inpletmenting these morals. 432Hz is the way to go.

This is unreal I wonder why.

I believe that science speaks for itself. Government should not get involved in regulating the music industry- it will destroy it if it does. If this information is true, then let some studies be done, and spread awareness.

Hi yes, I completely agree with you. It’s not about the law or the government I’m proposing. I’m talking about IOS 16. The shift to standardize music tuning to A=440 Hz was formalized in 1955 when the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) adopted it as the international standard (ISO 16). This decision followed earlier support, such as a 1939 conference in London that endorsed A=440 Hz, influenced by American and European music industries seeking uniformity. A=440 Hz replaced various traditional tunings, including A=432 Hz, which had been used historically. The change was driven by a desire for global consistency in music production and performance. I’m just proposing to return the IOS 16 this back to what originally it was for centuries.

Just to be clear, It’s not about laws I’m proposing. I’m talking about IOS 16.

Hi Steven! ISO 16 is an international standard, not a law. (sounds like an iPhone, actually. lol) It was established by the International Organization for Standardization in 1955 to define A=440 Hz as the reference pitch for tuning musical instruments globally. It serves as a guideline for consistency, not a legal mandate.

I’m sorry, as once a music composition major in addition to being a Libertarian, this “policy” should be downvoted.

In a free market, people can listen to music however they want it tuned. If you want it tuned to 432, 440, or 447, that is up to you. To make a policy stating that everyone has to listen to YOUR preference is authoritarian.

Lastly, while I understand your desire for 432hz music, this post negatively reflects on the purpose of this forum which is to tell our government what is really important to us. Music tuning is no where in the top 100 issues we face today.

Totally agree, Angela! Of course, music and instruments can be tuned to whatever you want, but my proposal is not about that. It’s about Reversing the “standard” Implemented by IOS (16) from 440 HZ back to what it originally was for centuries prior to the 50s.

this music frequency is healing as it was meant to.

Hi Dina, could you provide me maybe a link or two explaining more about this frequency change? Maybe like a set of two songs - one that uses the one that doesn’t? I’m genuinely interested in the mechanics of this. Thank you!

composerfocus.com dives a little deeper into the history of tuning. A few artists that refused/refuse to use the standard 440 HZ are the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Metallica and Coldplay, it says. Interesting!

Except as I noted in the examples I mentioned above, and there are many, many more, there was no standard. In 1939, A440 became the standard, and in 1950, some body adopted it officially. This is something to be decided by composers and artists. There is no need for any official action to be taken. And, as I said and other have said far better than I can, there is absolutely nothing magical about A432.

Okay, thank you for clarifying, but how does raising this topic in this forum advance your goal of changing ISO 16? The very nature of this forum is about US govt policy. Are you advocating that the US govt take a position in favor of redefining middle A from 440 to 432 Hz? Even if you are, this sounds like something that is [or should be] outside of the US govt’s wheelhouse.
