China has them we are long overdue for them. They can be engineered to accommodate both humans driving and natures rockslides, snowmelt, etc could still do their natural thing. Within reason obviously, so the lower elevation of the Appalachian mountains wouldn’t necessarily need them so much as the Rockies or Sierra Nevadas. It would alleviate fear for many people and encourage more Americans to adventure. Not to mention the lives we would save, the nature that would be preserved and the personal and company equipment and vehicles that would be saved as well. Example: the little barriers on the Road to the Sun in Glacier National Park are a joke.
