We should be able to designate beneficiaries for any excess funds of our social security benefits that may go unused in our lifetimes. The government mandated personal contributions of our own money in the first place. It is definitely trackable and is our own money. Like any other retirement plan, these funds should be part of our estate plan and not get automatically absorbed by the government upon our death. This would be very easy to do in an era where everything is computerized and trackable.

I 100% agree. I have worked and contributed all my life but I am in poor health and I doubt I will live long enough to be eligible to collect anything. It makes me sad.
