Employers should provide employees time off to be able to vote in person in elections, national elections especially. If Election Day is declared a national holiday it will provide employees on all shifts the opportunity and time to be able to vote in person. Not to mention this will help spouses at home with young children or the opportunity to drive an elderly parent. In person voting is the most effective way to vote. Declaring a national holiday coupled with mandatory voter ID will help make our elections safer and more equitable for all Americans. This will ensure every American is able to cast their ballot on voting day.

I would add to this that mail in ballots should only be for extreme national crisis. Absentee ballots are the appropriate ballots for those meeting the requirements to receive one.
