Immigration/Border Response

The immigration crisis on our southern border is heartbreaking - many of these people are being thrown in with the less than 1% of their demographic that causes crime. Many of them are good hearted people who want to be citizens, but they face an immigration system that works against them. For these people, seeking refuge and asylum is not a strong enough factor for them to become citizens - in fact, it’s not considered at all legally. We must make sure we do not judge an entire group of people off of the actions of a few - if someone did that to our ancestors, we wouldn’t be Americans. Throughout history, many immigrant groups (Italians, Germans, Japanese, Irish) were met with resistance - where would we be as a country without their influence? Most of the illegal immigrants that have crossed our southern border have huge hearts, and I’d be proud to call them my neighbor - with whatever response is planned to fix this issue, I hope that our federal government and constitution are not abused, and that these people are given a proper opportunity to become citizens. They could teach us something - they could teach us where we came from, so that we can get back to where we once were.
