End Diplomatic Immunity for foreign dignitaries, their families, and their employees. If an American did something bad in another country, we would be held to the laws of that country. We have foreign diplomats who have killed people with vehicles, murdered people, dealt illegal drugs and they have immunity.
This policy needs to end and the foreign dignitaries should be held accountable for their actions. I lived in the DC area and there were numerous incidents where the dignitary was simply deported and not held accountable. The families never received justice.
Diplomatic immunity is absolutely disgusting. As a survivor of a very serious crime, the diplomatic immunity is a slap, or a bat to the face to Americans. No one should be able to get away with crimes just because they are related or are a diplomat. Our corrupt justice systems need to be fixed.
Congress should consider revoking diplomatic immunity for individuals in the private sector. What legitimate reason would a businessperson have for requiring immunity if not involved in international criminal activities? Revoking diplomatic immunity for private sector individuals could lead to greater accountability and transparency in international business dealings. Without the shield of immunity, businesspeople would be more accountable for their actions and less likely to engage in unethical or illegal activities. Furthermore, this change could strengthen international relations by ensuring that justice is served without bias or protection. Diplomatic immunity is traditionally reserved for government officials to perform their duties without interference, and extending it to private individuals dilutes its original purpose. By reevaluating the criteria for diplomatic immunity, Congress can ensure it is granted only to those who truly need it.
