College costs are no longer affordable, sustainable, and the risk/reward is reaching a crossroads.
College can be virtually free to anyone that wishes to attend if we overhaul the system by putting the first 2 years online. These are the years spent taking basics in a wide range of subjects and should be allowed to be taken with any accredited online program.
This would allow students to continue to live at home, with their parents, saving the added cost of student housing. This will also weed out those that want to attend college for fun but aren’t serious about the education and if everyone attended an in person free college, these particular students would disrupt the learning environment for the others.
Years 3 and 4 can be taken in person at any University they are accepted to. The focus would be on their Major and associated courses. This would not be free but instead would require an internship, within their desired field, sponsored by corporations to help offset and lower the education cost. This will give the students experience in their chosen field while also putting skin in the game for both the students and potential employers.
Get rid of all the mid-level six figure salaried administrators. There should be enough interns and grad students to cover the jobs through internships.
Get rid of degrees in fields that have little to no demand for employment.
There has been public outcry from many to forgive student loan debt and that the cost of education is too high. There has been zero public outcry as to why the cost of education has skyrocketed. Overpaid professors that have tenure yet contribute little to student class credits because they only teach one class, have turned their position into a political brainwashing project, have a teaching assistant actually teach the class, or spend the bulk of their time lobbying for government grants for unnecessary pet projects.
More focus should be on fields that move America forward not to create a country full of Marxist activists hell bent on overthrowing the country and shredding the Constitution.
