There should be a mandate that companies, online and brick-n-mortar, should let customers cancel subscriptions as easily as signing up. If the company offers online sign-up, it should be required to offer online cancellation as well.
I had an experience with American Home Shield that I got the run around and was held on the phone for 1 hour, being passed on to one department after another, while trying to get them to cancel my subscription. At the end, I had to give in and be charged an admin fee just to get rid them off my back.
