Dental Implants Are A Basic Human Need*

Dental implants are a necessity yet are also unobtainable for most people. They should be covered for anyone that is elderly, a veteran, or disabled. There are people with genetic issues that caused them to lose their teeth at an early age as well as some that did not form teeth in their mouth. Dentures are outdated and cause many other issues. The glue that has to be used daily may not be healthy. If we have the ability to give people teeth, we need to do that. Its the humane thing to do. And sedation should be covered for these people as well.

By what means do you think that you and I should be paying for everyone to have dental implants? By government tax dollars or by higher insurance rates?

Well, if it were to be tax dollars, I think this is a much better way to spend our tax dollars than the things our tax dollars have gone towards. But that isn’t necessarily the answer, since I believe our tax structure is getting ready to change. Maybe a requirement for providers to so more pro bono work since they make so much money. And possibly the insurance company could give a little too. There has to be a solution for people that can’t afford them. There are plenty of people that can afford them to also make up for those who can’t if the provider can’t give up any of their income to help others.

So you want insurance rates to go up for everyone?

Have you considered seeing if there exist any charity foundations that could provide the solution?

You might as well say “The answer is communism”.

Not everyone can get dental implants, especially the elderly (and even those, perhaps, with genetic issues). It is necessary to have a jaw bone that is healthy and/or dense enough to hold the implant(s) and poor bone density is common among seniors. I do agree, however, that implants should be covered by insurance (dental or otherwise) for those who are physically able to get them. They are a necessity for good nutrition and health and should not categorized as cosmetic.
