I don’t agree with making any changes to the Constitution. This sets a pattern of people attacking the Constitution and trying to change it. We have already seen hints of these attacks over the past several years as well as attacks on the Court system by Soros funded Judges and Attorney Generals and trying to expand the Supreme Court.
Thus the reason it’s ao difficult. You can be against it, but we have the ability to do so, and that’s not going anywhere.
Also, the fact that lobbying is protected by an amendment (the 1st) means that changes to lobbying can be considered changes and alterations of said amendment.
I see where you are coming from though, everyone should be cautious when any talk of new amendments comes up.
I don’t think it will go anywhere with the stipulation of it being a Constitutional amendment. Personally I would contact my Reps and tell them not to support it for that reason.
I would however support policies that clarify what is permitted or not permitted. The First amendment is not really saying that Corporations should be paying or doing favors. It is saying we have the right to approach our Reps with grievances; to petition. I think this goes back to the policy on intent that I think you posted.
"While the First Amendment protects the right to petition, the Supreme Court has determined that Congress may regulate individuals who are paid to lobby Congress. For example, Congress may require that lobbyists register, make specific disclosures, and submit reports to Congress. " https://constitution.congress.gov/browse/essay/amdt1-7-11-5/ALDE_00013494/
You go me there! I have no good arguement against the Congressional regulation of lobbying.
My mentality was the solidification of such legislation. The current generation may unite for a cause against lobbying, but what about in half a century? Primary example being Trump taking us out of the WHO and the US rejoining the next term.
Policy is weak, amendments are strong.
Thanks for the great discussion, tbh as long as we head in this direction my support will continue.
I understand. That is true. I’m concerned about the attacks on the Constitution including from foreign interests using non profits and paying people to protest etc. Those aren’t real protests or real citizen driven changes.
Why allow them to at any money from lobbies, every time you give them any lea way, they take it the the extreme, they always find loop holes to make money, i so no , stop lobbing all together, keep everyone accountable for everything they do, it’s like keep trying of child you have to keep an eye on them every minute
Is eliminating monied influence in legislation, constinutionally, not limiting foreign influences? How is this an effort for a legitimate change bad? The reason is so difficult is to help with your point.
