I recently read a piece proposing sponsorship of all immigrants by a US citizen. The immigrant would undergo a probationary period of non-citizenship, and the citizen-sponsor would post bond for them during that period, essentially accepting legal responsibility for them.
Obviously some details need to be hashed out: how long is the probationary period? Is full citizenship granted after it, or something lesser? What are the penalties for a sponsor whose immigrant commits a crime? Are there are any qualifications for the relationship between sponsor and immigrant?
Those questions aside, I love the concept. Iām an anti-state guy, so the outcome of more liberty (+ personal responsibility) and less state seems to be achieved by this proposal.
