American Banks should be legally required to have customer service in the US - no offshoring those jobs

The people of the United States should have the right to know that when they are banking with an American bank (ex Citizens Bank) that they will have customer service provided by American workers based in the United States. Sensitive financial and personal identification information like social security numbers should not be being shared with non- US citizens. Keep these jobs in our country to employ Americans. It is unacceptable that when we call about very sensitive financial issues that we are being directed to people in India, Mexico, Philippines etc- simply because the banks can pay them penny’s on the dollar. We are entitled to keep our money and our personal information secure and financial institutions in the US should be forced to comply with an American citizens/ US location only rule

Something like this should apply to any business that is under the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CPFB) - if it survives DOGE. This should include lenders and other non-bank entities.

A certain mortgage company has long had a presence at multiple offices in India (mainly for IT systems development and support, along with other “back office” functions), but in the past couple of years has started having more personnel in India working directly with the mortgages that they originate and service, so while the agent that is working with the customer is in the US (since they have to be licensed at the state level), the person doing the paperwork might actually call you from India.

Any outsourced services from out of the country, like call centers, should be considered imports (they import a service) and thus be subject to all appropriate tariffs.
