Well…I guess I’d be lying if I said I didn’t understand your thought process, haha…I just would hope the effect matches the intent. Especially because affirmative action/DEI already struggles in that arena.
What you are forgetting here is that 40 yrs+ folks will be having to work longer than expected in the current economic times as well as in the future. And…they bring a wealth of experiences and knowledge that is priceless!!
Claire, I don’t think I am “forgetting” what you stated. I am disagreeing with it instead.
You stated that 40+ aged employees are currently expected to work longer. I agree with that because I can see it.
You also followed up with “…as well as in the future.” I think you are forgetting that economies and occupational practices are dynamic, changing over time. You cannot “infer” that since a class of people work longer hours now, that this will also be the case in the future. It is merely an assumption. Hopefully, people will work less hours, but work “smarter”.
And hopefully, when a pile of bricks need to be moved, that the younger employee moves them; and when there is wisdom or direction that is needed in a particular task, that the older employee be the one to provide his/her experience on it. Anyway, we will see how it turns out, won’t we?
Any form of DEI, which is essentially proposed here, shall be excluded and prohibited as a (reversed) discrimination.
You nailed it.
