I propose a constitutional amendment: “The number of Justices on the Supreme Court of the United States shall not exceed 9.”
Court-packing is a loaded gun sitting on a table between the two parties, just waiting for one to be crazy enough to grab it. The Founders clearly did not intend that any party that secured both the Presidency and the Senate could de-legitemize the Court by arbitrarily adding sympathetic members. Our constitution should reflect that intention.
